Paper honeycomb
Paper folded and glued into hexagonal cells: between two skins it becomes a panel that weighs little and does not give way.
What it is
Paper honeycomb is a lattice of hexagonal cells, made by gluing sheets of paper and then expanding them. Closed, it is a flat pack; opened, it becomes a three-dimensional structure as deep as you need it.
Bonded between two skins — timber, MDF, board, laminate — it does for a panel what reinforcement does for concrete: it takes the load and spreads it, leaving the solid faces the single job of being a surface.

Three ways to receive it
Closed and perforated
The panel arrives closed and perforated: the holes let steam escape during hot pressing. It is expanded at the point of use.
Closed and continuous
In continuous packs, for the automated lines of panel factories and of manufacturers working in a continuous cycle.
Open and expanded
Already expanded and packed: ready to lay, with no intermediate step.
What it changes, in practice
A door with a honeycomb core is hung by two people rather than three. A lorry carries more goods for the same weight. In the warehouse, closed stock takes a fraction of the space expanded stock would.
And when the furniture or the door reaches the end of its life, the core is paper: it goes into the waste paper stream along with the packaging, with nothing to pull apart first.
